“I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service.” (1 Tim 1:12)

Biography

Rev. Dr. Shawn P. Richmond is a native of both North Carolina and Washington, DC. She was raised in a loving Christian family, and she continues to carry forward many of their traditions.

Dr. Richmond is the author of two Christian novels, a Bible study workbook, a collection of sermons and short stories, and a recent biblical research project. For this project, she conducted an in-depth study of "100 Women of the Bible," leading a social media campaign that featured a different woman each day for 100 days.

In addition to her writing, Dr. Richmond is the Owner and Editor-in-Chief of Goshen Publishers LLC, a company she founded in 2017. Since then, she has published more than 70 books and is eager to expand her work by opening bookstores across the country to showcase and sell Goshen books.

Having accepted Christ at the age of 12, Rev. Richmond has walked with the Lord for more than 40 years. Life's unpredictable and inevitable challenges have drawn her closer to God, deepening her commitment to fervent, effective prayer. Her thirst for deeper understanding led her to theological studies, which she pursued at seminary. She completed her studies in 2016 and was soon called to preach the Gospel. She is now an ordained minister, serving as the Pastor of Prince George's Community Church.

Rev. Richmond holds a Ph.D. in Organization and Management, a Master’s in Theology, a Master’s in Distance Education, and a Bachelor’s in Computer Studies. She has earned over a dozen graduate and post-doctoral certificates. In her academic career, she has served as faculty, advisor, and curriculum developer at six accredited colleges and universities.

Currently residing in Virginia, Dr. Richmond enjoys family dinners, running her business, reading books, and studying the Bible.

My Statement of Faith

As a Presbyterian pastor, I affirm my commitment to the following core beliefs:

  1. The Triune God: I believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Each is fully God, co-equal and co-eternal, and together they are the Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer of all creation.

  2. The Authority of Scripture: I affirm that the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired, authoritative, and infallible Word of God. It is the ultimate guide for faith, doctrine, and life, revealing the salvation offered through Jesus Christ.

  3. Jesus Christ, the Son of God: I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully divine and fully human, who was born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, performed miracles, and taught the way of salvation. He was crucified for the forgiveness of sins, died, was buried, and on the third day rose again from the dead. His resurrection assures believers of eternal life and the hope of the new creation.

  4. Salvation by Grace Through Faith: I believe that salvation is a gift from God, offered by His grace and received through faith in Jesus Christ. It is not by works or human effort, but solely by the grace of God that we are reconciled to Him.

  5. The Holy Spirit: I believe in the work of the Holy Spirit, who empowers believers to live according to God’s will, convicts us of sin, and strengthens us for service in the world. The Holy Spirit also fosters the growth of spiritual gifts and the fruit of the Spirit in the lives of believers.

  6. The Church: I believe in the universal Church, the body of Christ, consisting of all believers in Jesus Christ, called to worship, fellowship, and serve God’s mission in the world. As the Presbyterian tradition teaches, the Church is governed by elected leaders (elders and ministers) in a system of shared authority and accountability.

  7. The Sacraments: I affirm the two sacraments instituted by Christ: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Through Baptism, we are marked as children of God and members of the Church. In the Lord’s Supper, we partake of the body and blood of Christ, remembering His sacrifice and proclaiming His death until He comes again.

  8. The Kingdom of God: I believe in the present and future reality of the Kingdom of God, where God’s reign is established through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We are called to live in anticipation of Christ’s return, seeking justice, mercy, and peace in the world as a foretaste of the fullness of God's Kingdom.

  9. The Great Commission: I believe that the Church is called to share the good news of the Gospel with all people, making disciples of every nation. This mission is central to our identity as Christians and our responsibility as the Church in the world.
